Linker, K. (2005). Laurie Simmons: Walking, Talking, Lying. London: Thames & Hudson, New York: Aperture.
Simmons work is deeply rooted in a feminine discourse, as women become objects or objects become women. The objects themselves--a globe, a camera, a microscope-- are all loaded with meaning. The sinister feel of the objects is offset by the comical nature of the legs.

"The objects are icons, illustrative of society's relationship to women, of the way women identify or view themselves, and of the way we use objects to define or identify who we are, where we're from, what we want." A.M. Homes (Refco Group, 2003, 220)
